Rider's Menu

Roy Davies IstanbulName, age and area of the country you will represent.

Roy Davies, 62, North Manchester and Liverpool.

Why the hell are you doing this?

To defy the onset of senile decay - at my age if I wait much longer, I'll forget why I'm doing it!! I also want to help Jimmy support the charity for the condition which has had such an impact on many of our lives.

Who / what is your inspiration?

After reading one of the funniest sporting books ever ''French Revolution'', about an Irish lad who rode the route of the Tour with minimal training, I thought, that's for me. The book that pushed me over the edge was Geoff Thomas's account of his recovery from life threatening leukemia to ride the Tour for charity. The Tour may be next year's challenge if we survive this!

What will be the hardest part of the journey?

Getting up every morning and realising that we have to ride another 100 miles, and watching James disappear into the distance while I'm struggling to stay alive!

What will you do at the finish line?

Cry in disbelief that we've made it, find the nearest pub and trust that I can drink enough to enjoy it before I collapse in a heap.

Will you ever get on a bike again?

Depends whether my aching bum can take it.
